As the primary fundraising person for St. Vincent de Paul's (SVdP) Portland Council, I sometimes stand in awe of how kind and generous so many of you are to this organization throughout the year. Though the reasons for why you support SVdP may vary, I believe your willingness to help complete strangers can be linked directly to the following core values of Catholicism that we embrace:
"That all people be shown dignity, that all persons have worth, that we're all responsible for each other, that we care for the most vulnerable, and that we are saved through community."
That's what makes SVdP so unique—with every phone call or face-to-face encounter with those we serve, our staff and volunteers practice those core values by demonstrating empathy and understanding when dealing with the many struggles our clients face.
In FY 2022/23, we helped 25,975 people in 9,226 households with $1,781,205 in aid.
In FY 2023/24, we helped 33,660 people in 11,175 households with $2,003,327 in aid.
As the need continues to rise in our communities, your support is more crucial than ever. Whether it's by providing a family with food, keeping the heat on during these winter months, or preventing an eviction, your gift can make a big difference for our neighbors in need. We invite you to join us in our mission of compassion and care with a donation this holiday season. Your generosity today will be a source of hope for tomorrow.
Blessings,
Brian Ferschweiler
