Forbes business magazine has moved St. Vincent de Paul up 16 spots on the magazine's list

of the top 100 charities in the U.S. Forbes emphasizes that its list is a valuable tool to help donors evaluate the financial worthiness of organizations they're considering.

St. Vincent de Paul's national president, John Berry, described Forbes' listing another way:

"It's a testament to the generosity and compassion (that) our nearly 90,000 Vincentian volunteers have put forth to help their communities, the thousands of hours of providing person-to-person service to our neighbors, and the dedication to creating a more just world."

SVdP's leader in Portland praised the work that the organization does throughout northwest Oregon.

"Last year we were ranked #75," said Executive Director Brian Ferschweiler. "This year we're at #59. This is recognition of the important work that SVdP does not only in Portland, but in hundreds of other communities."

Forbes listed SVdP with a 95-percent fundraising efficiency, and an 89-percent charitable commitment score. These levels put SVdP, and other organizations on the Forbes list, far above other charities around Oregon and throughout the nation.
